Who is Jesus? – Day 1
Deeper Devotional for Monday, June 1
Read John 1:1-18
Who is Jesus? Perhaps a better question is who is Jesus to you?
For the Apostle John, he writes his gospel account so that “you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” (Jn 20:31)
These introductory verses to the Gospel of John almost sound like a poem or some type of code. At least they are a very formal form of writing. They contain the great thoughts of the story that unfolds: the excellency of Christ, who is the word of God, the battle between light and darkness, the witness of John the Baptist, the astounding concept of God actually becoming man, and the very rejection of those who might have been expected to welcome Him.
Take a moment and pray that the Lord will speak to you in this time of study.
Take a paper and pencil and slowly write out the verses of John 1:1-18. Allow God to speak to you about each idea, each phrase. What thoughts or ideas does he bring to your mind? Write them down. What other stories or accounts of Christ do you recall? Make a note of them. What does He say to you about who He is and your relationship with Him? Write it down. If possible, keep a notebook or journal of what you have written. Where do you stand in regard to “light” and “darkness”? On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being total darkness and 10 being total light, where would you be? What prevents you from being a 10 standing in “total light”?
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Neil
